LONDON CRAFT WEEK 2018: OUR HIGHLIGHTS

Heading into its fourth year, London Craft Week offered walk in studios, showrooms and creative spaces, opened up across London in a celebration of modern-day making and heritage artisans. From innovative fabric installations and exclusive watch engraving, to fancy shoe collections, here are our top five events from LCW.

1.The Purity and Decadence: Contemporary Czech Jewellery

Each of the presented artists is renowned in their field and unique in their style and approach to object. The talented designers have filled up the wonderful space of the Gallery S O with pure minimalist necklaces and bracelets. Exhibition lasts until 27th May.

 2. Lora Avedian at HOWE London

We love Lora Avedian's work ever since her degree show at thr Royal College of Art. So we were curious to see her new textile exhibition this time in HOWE. From cut-out leather leaves to finely manipulated leather flower, Lora offered a wide range of possibilities of high-end floral leather decorations for interior space.

HOWE in west London is a unique and beautiful shop that offers a range of traditional vegetable tanned leathers, new and vintage textiles, trimmings and wallpapers.

3. Mulberry: Celebrating a Passion for Making
Mulberry in Bond Street gave the open public a chance to  meet some of the craftspeople from their Somerset factories and discover the story and passion behind the making of a Mulberry bag. We loved the whole presentation and look: how cute this mulberry tree stamp is!

4. Leather Stamping with Bill Manley
The word ‘craftsmanship’ epitomises everything about Purdey. Every ‘Best’ gun and rifle Purdey makes is entirely bespoke from beginning to end. These working pieces of art take up to two years to build, with the engraving alone accounting for approximately 150 hours of handcrafting. There was an exclusive chance to get hand stamping on visitors leather goods purchased from Purdey.

5.  The Flipside at The Old Selfridges Hotel
Concepts of ‘radical luxury’ culminate at this new exhibition by Selfridges that features a concrete maze of darkened rooms with installations by the likes of Louis Vuitton, Google and Byredo. After entering the space decked out with mirrors and high gloss ball flooring, we were immersed in the reflective installations, Si-Fi atmosphere full of opulence and extravagance.
You will also have a chance to get your personalised cocktail flavour from the award-winning Mr. Lyan- Never too late to know a bit more about your self! Event lasts until 20th May.
We hope you enjoy the London Craft Week as much as we did and do grab the last chances to see some of the shows!
